The Ambigutree Series
Where nature meets meaning...
While his Grandmother (Phylis Mooney) was nearing the end of her life due to a terminal illness, Vincent decided to paint a symbolic piece to commemorate his Grandmother. Using his signature skies and colour scheme he then painted thirteen trees to represent all his Grandmother's children. Surmising that red foliage would work in a visually dynamic way with a turquoise background, he began to paint. Upon leaving the piece and returning he noticed he had, subconsciously, painted the foliage in the shape of a body, clearly a representation of his grandmother.
Using this as a springboard, the idea for his hugely successful "Ambigutree" series was born. Nearly all of this series contain hidden shapes in the tree or branches. Some are symbolic and some literal. The hidden shapes in the trees also ask the viewer to search and spend time on the paintings for longer. This is a commentary on how sometimes artwork can be skimmed over and judged on just a purely visual spectrum. The reward for standing and allowing the painting to occupy your mental and physical space then gives the visual reward that there are more to these "trees" than meets the eye with the shapes becoming apparent after a time.

Vincent's Story
Vincent Devine is an Irish artist based in Co.Offaly, Ireland. He learned to draw at the age of 4 and paint at the age of 9. He studied at The Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest and has a Honours Degree in Visual Communications. Devine's work is in public and private collections Internationally and he has exhibited in Hong Kong, Toronto, Miami and extensively in the UK and Ireland. His work has featured in many publications including The Irish Times, The Sunday Business Post and the Irish Independent. His record breaking portrait of female health campaigner Vicky Phelan garnered national coverage including a feature on RTE News and Nationwide. His oeuvre focuses on reconstructing tree forms while his portraiture reflects his love of the human anatomy and the unseen.
In 2023 his work expanded into cancer research where he was invited to work with University College Dublin to depict the intricate layers of cancer. While working closely with cancer researchers and patient advocates Devine has developed groundbreaking paintings which through public engagement events are helping to communicate complex subjects to increase awareness and improve public engagement with the sciences. His work serves as a visual medium that dismantles barriers inviting viewers to contemplate and explore profound subjects beyond traditional methods.
